6-Day Cairo & Siwa New Year Under the Stars 2026/27

Overview

This Siwa New Year Tour combines Cairo’s essential sights with a private oasis journey and New Year’s Eve beneath the desert sky.

Leave Cairo’s pyramids behind and welcome the New Year in one of Egypt’s most peaceful desert oases. This private 6-day journey combines Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum with Siwa’s salt lakes, palm groves, ancient oracle and the towering dunes of the Great Sand Sea.

On New Year’s Eve, trade the hotel ballroom for a lantern-lit desert setting with sandboarding, a festive dinner, local hospitality, stargazing and a midnight countdown beneath the open sky.

Your accommodation, private transport, standard sightseeing tickets and confirmed festive arrangements are agreed in writing before payment.

No hidden mandatory New Year supplement after booking.

New Year’s Eve doesn’t have to mean a crowded hotel ballroom.

This 6-day Cairo and Siwa New Year tour is built for travelers who want Egypt’s headline ancient sights but also want to finish the year somewhere that feels completely removed from city noise.

The journey begins in Cairo.

After arrival and a comfortable first night, your first full day brings together the Giza Pyramids, Great Sphinx and Grand Egyptian Museum.

Giza currently operates from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while GEM requires advance timed-entry booking and its galleries currently operate from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on most days, with extended hours on Wednesday and Saturday. Standard foreign-adult admission is currently EGP 700 at Giza and EGP 1,590 at GEM; all current official values are rechecked before travel.

Day 3 changes the pace completely.

Leave Cairo early and travel west toward Egypt’s Mediterranean coast before continuing inland to Siwa.

The drive is long.

We don’t hide that.

From central Cairo, travelers should realistically allow roughly 9–11 hours with sensible comfort stops, with comfortable planned stops; your pickup time is coordinated for a smooth journey.

That long journey is exactly why Siwa feels so different when you arrive.

The official Experience Egypt portal describes Siwa as Egypt’s remote desert sanctuary, known for palm and olive groves, salt lakes, natural springs, archaeological remains and access to the Great Sand Sea.

Your first Siwa evening is intentionally quiet.

Check in.

Eat.

Rest.

A gentle Shali viewpoint walk can be added if your group wants it, while the core arrival day remains relaxed after the long road journey.

December 31 is the heart of the journey.

After breakfast, switch from the road vehicle to a locally prepared 4×4 and head toward the Great Sand Sea along the authorized route arranged in advance by our local Siwa team.

The Great Sand Sea isn’t a decorative background.

It is the experience.

High dunes.

Open horizons.

Sandboarding.

Desert tea.

Selected spring stops where currently accessible.

Sunset over the dunes.

Then the pace slows.

Your group settles into the confirmed festive desert venue or serviced authorized camp.

Lanterns replace city lights.

Dinner is served.

Tea and coffee stay warm.

The sky gets darker.

And the final hours of 2026 are spent outside instead of underneath a ballroom ceiling.

Your New Year’s Eve package includes:

A confirmed festive dinner.

Private or specially prepared seating for your party.

Lantern-lit atmosphere.

Midnight countdown.

Bedouin / Siwan hospitality.

Stargazing under the Siwa desert sky.

Confirmed local music or percussion within the festive setup.

The package includes a polished festive countdown and desert atmosphere.

Siwa sits within a protected desert environment, and activities and deep-desert routes must respect the current environmental and access framework.

Any licensed fireworks, cold-spark or visual-light element provided by the selected venue is listed clearly in the final schedule.

Your confirmation clearly lists every included festive element:

we don’t promise it.

January 1 is deliberately slower.

That’s another point that separates this itinerary from rushed packages.

After a late night, you do not wake at 5:00 AM for another nine-hour tour.

Enjoy breakfast and begin a relaxed Siwa day covering the oasis rather than the open desert.

Walk through Shali Fortress.

Explore the historic Oracle of Amun.

Stop at Cleopatra’s Spring.

Float in a selected Siwa salt lake chosen by the local team for comfortable access.

Then finish New Year’s Day at Fatnas or another suitable oasis sunset viewpoint.

Siwa’s bright salt pools are spectacular but they’re not managed swimming pools. Our current visitor guidance recommends using a locally selected accessible pool, avoiding the water with open cuts, wearing water shoes and carrying fresh rinse water because salt concentration is extremely high and crystal edges can be sharp.

The final morning begins with breakfast before the private road journey back to Cairo.

Because the drive is long, plan your international departure for the following day or let Ahmed coordinate a comfortable same-day connection.

This package works particularly well for:

  • Couples who want a New Year’s Eve that feels intimate rather than nightclub-focused.
  • Friends who want 4×4, dunes and sandboarding as part of the celebration.
  • Repeat Egypt travelers who have already seen Luxor or the Nile and want a completely different landscape.
  • Photographers who want salt lakes, palms, dunes, sunsets and night skies.
  • First-time visitors who want the Pyramids but don’t want the entire trip to remain a classical sightseeing circuit.
  • Families with older children or teenagers who enjoy road trips and outdoor experiences.
  • Solo travelers who value private logistics but still want a meaningful festive atmosphere.

The journey is private for your confirmed party unless a specific local activity must use a shared public facility.

We do not intentionally merge your private road transport, Cairo sightseeing or desert service plan with unrelated guests.

  • Older children
  • Teenagers
  • Children who enjoy outdoor activities
  • Families who are comfortable with a long road journey

Mobility

Mobility & Comfort

Siwa can work for many travelers, but mobility needs should be discussed before booking.

Cairo

Giza involves uneven archaeological surfaces.

GEM is much more accessibility-friendly and currently provides wheelchairs, elevators, accessible restrooms and seating.

Siwa

Potential challenges include:

  • Getting in and out of a 4×4
  • Sand
  • Uneven heritage sites
  • Salt-lake edges
  • Basic desert-camp access
  • The long Cairo–Siwa road journey

Tell Ahmed about mobility needs before booking. We will check the vehicle, accommodation, New Year’s venue and sightseeing route before you pay rather than assume every desert setup is suitable.

Dietary Needs

Meals & Special Requirements

We can request:

  • Vegetarian meals
  • Vegan meals
  • Gluten-free meals
  • Food-allergy arrangements
  • Child-friendly meals

Share dietary requirements in advance and our team coordinates them with every hotel and festive dinner provider.

Winter Desert Travel

What Is Siwa Like at New Year?

Late December and early January are among the more comfortable periods for daytime desert exploration.

Nighttime is different.

Desert nights can become cold, particularly after sunset and during an outdoor New Year’s Eve. Bring warm layers, a jacket and closed shoes even if daytime weather feels comfortable.

No future temperature is guaranteed.

The desert setting is selected to give your group a beautiful open-sky stargazing atmosphere.

Road Journey

This Is Not a Short Transfer

Cairo to Siwa is roughly 740–760 km by road depending on route and pickup point.

A private transfer should realistically allow around 9–11 hours including comfort stops, with comfortable planned stops and coordinated pickup timing.

We do not hide the drive.

The road is part of the journey.

Any licensed fireworks, cold-spark or visual-light element provided by the venue is listed clearly in your confirmation.

How is the desert celebration arranged?

Egypt Safari Travel selects an approved festive venue and coordinates the local team, dinner, countdown, transport and all required arrangements in advance.

What happens on New Year’s Eve?

The intended experience includes a Great Sand Sea 4×4 safari, dunes, sandboarding, desert hospitality, sunset, a lantern-lit festive dinner, midnight countdown and stargazing under the open desert sky.

The authorized route and selected venue are listed clearly before payment.

Is sandboarding included?

Yes.

Participation is optional.

Is the Great Sand Sea included?

Yes. The local team coordinates the authorized Great Sand Sea route in advance.

Is Bir Wahed included?

Not automatically.

A suitable natural-spring stop is coordinated within the authorized route by the local team.

Do we visit the Siwa salt lakes?

Yes, at a selected currently accessible location.

Can we swim in the salt lakes?

Visitors can usually float in selected salt pools, but the local team must choose a currently suitable and accessible area.

Guests should not enter with cuts and should keep the water away from their eyes.

Is Cleopatra Spring included?

Yes.

Is Fatnas included?

Yes. The local team selects a beautiful sunset viewpoint within the arranged route.

Do we visit Shali Fortress?

Yes.

Do we visit the Oracle of Amun?

Is the Mountain of the Dead included?

It is not a guaranteed core stop in this six-day version because January 1 is deliberately paced more slowly after New Year’s Eve.

It can be added as an optional relaxed stop when your group would enjoy it.

Are the Giza Pyramids included?

Yes.

Standard Giza Plateau admission is included.

Is GEM included?

Yes.

Standard Grand Egyptian Museum admission and timed-entry coordination are included.

Is Great Pyramid interior included?

No.

It requires a separate official ticket and is optional.

Is a camel ride included at Giza?

No.

It can be arranged as an optional experience.

How long is the drive from Cairo to Siwa?

The route is roughly 740–760 km depending on pickup point and route.

Private road travel commonly requires around 9–11 hours including sensible stops, with comfortable planned stops and coordinated pickup timing.

Is the long drive worth it?

If you’re genuinely interested in Siwa, yes.

The distance is exactly why the oasis feels different from Cairo, Fayoum or the Nile Valley.

Travelers with very limited time may prefer Fayoum instead.

Is the package suitable for children?

It can be excellent for older children and teenagers who tolerate long road trips and enjoy outdoor activities.

For younger children, discuss the driving time and New Year’s Eve sleeping setup with Ahmed before booking.

Do children get reduced prices?

Family rates depend on children’s ages, ticket categories, rooms and the confirmed festive setup.

Send the exact ages for a quote.

Is this suitable for older travelers?

Potentially, but the long road journey, 4×4 access, sand and uneven heritage sites need consideration.

Send mobility needs before booking.

Can you provide vegetarian food?

Yes, with advance notice.

Can you provide vegan meals?

Yes. Share dietary needs in advance and our team coordinates them with each accommodation and festive provider.

What should we wear for New Year’s Eve?

Bring warm layers.

Even when daytime desert weather is comfortable, late-December nights can feel cold.

Is New Year’s Eve a large party?

No.

The core product is designed around a private or small-scale desert atmosphere, not a mass nightclub event.

Will there be music?

Confirmed local music or percussion is included in the festive setup.

We do not promise a full band or DJ unless stated in writing.

Is alcohol included?

No.

Can alcohol be requested?

The selected accommodation or venue provides the confirmed family arrangement listed in your booking.

It is not part of the standard package.

Are all entrance tickets included?

Standard admissions for the listed core Cairo attractions are included.

Siwa local site admissions connected to the final confirmed itinerary are handled according to the written package.

Are shopping stops included?

No compulsory shopping stops.

Can we buy Siwan crafts?

Of course, during appropriate free or local time if you want to.

Shopping is optional.

Can we stay longer in Siwa?

Yes.

Adding one or more nights is particularly suitable for photographers and slow travelers.

Can we visit Alexandria too?

Yes, but we recommend adding it before or after the six-day package rather than squeezing it into these dates.

Can we fly to Siwa instead of driving?

Flight or charter availability can change by season.

The base package is priced around the private road journey.

If a reliable operating flight exists for your date, we can quote it separately rather than promise a flight schedule months ahead.

Can we fly home on January 2?

We strongly prefer international departure on January 3 because of the long drive from Siwa.

If your flight is January 2, send the exact departure time before booking.

Is January a good time for Siwa?

Winter is one of the more comfortable seasons for desert sightseeing, although nights can be cold.

Is stargazing guaranteed?

No.

We provide the desert setting, but clouds and atmospheric conditions are outside anyone’s control.

How much does the tour cost?

The recommended festive rates currently begin from $1,095 per adult for parties of 5–8.

Smaller private parties have higher per-person pricing because long-distance transport, guiding and festive logistics are shared among fewer travelers.

Are there hidden New Year supplements?

No mandatory festive supplement should appear after your written confirmation.

Any New Year accommodation or venue cost must be part of the price you approve before payment.

How much is the deposit?

Our recommended base deposit is 25%, but a confirmed festive accommodation supplier may require a different deposit.

The exact amount is shown before you pay.

What is the cancellation policy?

Because festive hotels and desert providers can have different New Year terms, the exact cancellation schedule is provided with your written confirmation before the deposit.

What if Great Sand Sea access changes?

We do not take a deep-desert route for granted.

Current access and permits are rechecked for your travel date.

If a major route change materially affects the promised package, it is discussed with you before confirmation or handled according to your written booking terms.

Stop at the famous circular natural spring. Swimming is optional; the name is traditional and there is no reliable evidence Cleopatra VII personally bathed here.

Siwa Salt Lakes

Visit a currently accessible selected salt lake or pool. Safety comes before the photograph. Fresh rinse water is carried, and guests should avoid open cuts, protect eyes, wear water shoes, never dive and rinse afterward.

Fatnas Sunset

End New Year's Day at Fatnas or another suitable oasis viewpoint for tea and sunset over the lake and palms.

Accommodation: Selected Siwa accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 6 — January 2: Siwa to Cairo

Cairo Arrival

Drop-off is available at a Cairo hotel, Giza hotel, or Cairo Airport only when the flight timing is realistically compatible.

Important flight note: Because Siwa is a long road journey, we recommend an international departure on January 3 rather than the evening of January 2 whenever possible. Any January 2 flight must be reviewed before confirmation.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch.
